The Lloyd’s and RICS rugby clubs once again met on the hallowed turf of the Honourable Artillery Company, to determine the City bragging rights for the next six months.
With the promise of a big performance from both Saracens and Stade Francais, the London chaps aimed to raise the curtain in emphatic style.
Both sides started slowly but with huge physicality and it was the Lloyd’s XV that scored first, sending the large and imposing figure of Kieran Bowling over in the corner. Lloyd’s debutant Hugh Vyvyan demonstrated his mobility around the park and was a huge asset to the insurance contingent.
Lloyd’s stuttered during the middle forty and the RICS boys were able to put their slick handling and offloading ability to good use, developing a significant lead.
In the last twenty minutes Lloyd’s RFC rallied and continued pressure saw Callum McKie rewarded with a try. Unfortunately the spoils couldn’t be converted and a further penalty for Lloyd’s took the scoreline to within 6 points.
Sadly, despite taking a battering in the final five, the RICS defence held out and the final whistle blew to end the game 19 – 13 in favour of the surveyors.
Naturally both sides enjoyed a lively post-match celebration, coupled with a very entertaining thrashing of the French!!
We look forward to seeing as many players as possible at the upcoming City League fixtures
