Date: 6th February, 2013
Game: City League
Opponents: Ernst & Young
Venue: Charlton Park
E&Y moved the ball about much early on but found no chinks in Lloyd’s defence. Eventually, a couple of loose balls enabled Lloyd’s to launch counter attacks. On 22 minutes, a fortuitous bounce of the ball off a Lloyd’s defender near their 22 enabled the E&Y outside centre to run through unopposed for the opening score. However, within 3 minutes Lloyd’s were level when they swept up-field to score their first try. Lloyd’s then took the initiative and two minutes before half-time scored again following good play in midfield. Then, on the stroke of half-time, two deft inside passes from E&Y enabled their outside centre to break through the last line of defence to score his second try. 14-14.
That try seemed to give E&Y confidence and the second half saw them take control. After 10 minutes, from an attacking scrum on Lloyds 22, the E&Y scrum-half chipped over and won the race to the touchdown. Within 2 minutes their lead increased when the outside centre scored his third try to complete his hat-trick. The remainder of the game saw Lloyd’s exerting pressure but uncharacteristically they dropped the ball at critical moments and the E&Y defence held firm.
